Critical Essay on an Immigration Opinion

    (2/3 Summarize article & 1/3 critically access)
This project requires you to find a recent opinion piece on immigration (published between 2010 and the present) in a major newspaper (e.g., New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, etc.). Your essay should be a minimum of one single-spaced page, and should not exceed two single-spaced pages.
The objective of the essay is to critically evaluate the opinion piece using the concepts and research that we have been discussing in this course.
For example, some common reasons for opposing immigration is that immigrants “take jobs” from Americans or that they fail to learn English. Based on our discussions and readings, would you say that such opinions are supported by research?
Your essay should address the following three questions:

What is this person’s position on immigration? You should begin by thoroughly summarizing the argument that the author(s) has made. An effective summary will allow your reader to understand what the piece was about without having to read it him or herself?
Do you agree or disagree? Do you reject or accept the argument entirely or are there some parts with which you agree and others with which you disagree?
Why? What are your reasons for agreeing or disagreeing with the opinion? This is where you will want to bring in material from the course. You do not have to cite specific research, but should try to include some ideas that we have discussed in class.

Important: Please include a link to the opinion piece, or, if not possible, the title, author, publication, and publication date so that I can locate the piece on which you are commenting.
