As tycoons built monopolies, labor unions used both politics and violence to claim their share of the profits. This essay requires students to answer the prompt by choosing a factor in the US economy that led to America’s industrial growth in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There can be more than one factor. However, students must conclusively demonstrate why these factors are more important than other similar circumstances. Examples of factors include discoveries of natural resources or the development of a tycoon class.
